Jared was born and raised in Mayfield, Kentucky where he now lives with his wife Christy and three daughters, Lily, Sarah & Leah. Jared holds a B.S in Wildlife and Fisheries Biology and a Masters in Environmental Education both from Murray State University. Jared also graduated from Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama with a Masters of Business Administration…

John Ham

Southeast Owner/Director

John was born in Pensacola, Florida and lived most of his childhood and teenage years in Huntsville and Birmingham, Alabama. He began working at the Birmingham Zoo at the age of 16 being assigned to both the Children’s Zoo and Bird departments. During his four years at the Birmingham Zoo, John became one of the most experienced Children’s Zoo and Bird keepers and was instrumental in the design and construction phase of the Zoo’s $5.5 million dollar addition called Alabama Wilds…

Victorina Arvelo

Naturalist

From a very young age Victorina had an extreme passion for any and all things involving nature. As with many kids, she grew up watching documentaries on Animal Planet and the Discovery Channel, and spent countless afternoons chasing creatures of every sort in her backyard. However, she had no ordinary backyard. Victorina’s backyard was a mountainside in a rural, forested area of South America in Venezuela. Upon high school graduation, Victorina enrolled in the Marine Biology program at the University of West Florida in Pensacola…

Lauren Doubek

Naturalist

Lauren is currently studying Natural Resources Conservation at the University of Florida. She cultivated her passion while studying in South Africa for three months in 2017 with a conservation company on wildlife reserves. While there, she was given the opportunity to research habitats, bird diversity, and large mammals for reserve management usage. Lauren had a vast range of experiences on land and at sea; like witnessing a mother elephant teach her calf to forage, examining a fresh lion kill, living in quarters with the anti-poaching unit, and diving on magnificent reefs in the Indian Ocean…
